Museum to host painting classes
Two weekly painting classes for adults start next week at the Ella Sharp Museum of Art and History.
Christine Waugh-Fleischmann will teach a class called “Basic Watercolor for Chickens,” designed to dispel myths and address basic techniques for beginners. The class will meet from 10 a.m. to noon Mondays through July 21. Cost is $45 for members and $54 for nonmembers.
A plein air painting class will meet from 3 to 5 p.m. Wednesdays through July 30. Sharon Augustine will give instruction on painting landscapes and how to view and interpret outdoor subjects. Cost is $48 for members and $58 for nonmembers.
Adults and teens also can sign up for open time in the museum’s ceramics studio. It will be open 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Tuesday through July 12. Cost is $50 for members and $60 for nonmembers.

Croswell exhibit
The work of three local artists is on display through July 21 at the Croswell Opera House Gallery in Adrian.
Pat Cooper, Andrew Melms and Kimberly Myers-Pinkel are the featured artists.
Cooper is a graduate of Kendall School of Art and Design in Grand Rapids. She works primarily in watercolors, but has recently added acrylic painting and watercolor Batik.
Melms, a graduate of Kalamazoo Community College and Western Michigan University, is an illustrator, painter and sculptor. In his sculpture, he assembles pieces combining found, natural and industrial objects.
Myers-Pinkel earned her bachelor’s degree from Eastern Michigan University. She works in various mediums, but recently has been working primarily in acrylic painting and mono prints.
An artists reception is set for 6 p.m. Wednesday.
Gallery hours are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Detroit trip
The Jackson Trippers will visit the Detroit Institute of Art on Wednesday. The group will depart at 9 a.m. and return at 4 p.m. Cost is $42; call 784-8908.
